An evening with something for everyone
On Sunday 12 January 2025, Kaushik Das and his students took over the stage at Rotary Sadan for Confluence 2025. More than fifty students played the Kawai grand that evening, and the programme ran from Mozart and Schumann to film songs and pop tunes.
The junior pianists went first, and the evening built from there towards the senior students and their more demanding pieces. A few students also sang, in English and Hindi, with Kaushik accompanying them at the piano.
Guests of honour
The concert began by welcoming its guests: Professor Utpal Dutta, former principal of Medical College, Kolkata; Professor Debashish Basu, neurologist and former head of neurology at Medical College; Dhrubojyoti De, additional commissioner of police, Special Branch; Debashish Dutta, director of GD Pharmaceuticals; and the Odissi dancer Dona Ganguly. Kaushik was felicitated on stage.
A piano with a new home
Rose Dam Roy, one of Kaushik’s students, had won a piano as first prize at the Brilliant e National Piano Competition. During Confluence, that piano was donated to Soumaloke Biswaseva Niketan, a nonprofit organisation that works for orphaned girls.
Students who had earned distinctions in their piano exams were also awarded on the night.
